  • Boost click-through rates by 65%.
  • Reduce unsubscribes by 26%.

The experts at Animoto also recommend the following to boost your click-throughs within the email itself:

  • Add an appealing thumbnail image.
  • Superimpose a play button over the image to entice viewers to click.

Here’s a screenshot of a HigherDreams’ video email marketing campaign that was sent out in September through Constant Contact. It contains a video message including the word “VIDEO”  in the title. It also includes all of the above recommendations above. The result, our open rate increased from 11-15% to 21%! Currently, our open rate is at 26% which is above the industry average.

Short Videos Are The Most Effective

The video we submitted via our e-newsletter was a bit too long (5 minutes), but it still worked. Ideally, the shorter the video the better. Since we have an attention span of about 8 seconds, make sure to be succinct with your communication. The video doesn’t have to be 8 seconds. However, if you do not capture the attention of the viewer in the first 8 seconds, you will lose them. Try to make your videos less than a minute long. If there is more information you would like to relay, you can redirect the viewer to another video. There are a variety of ways you can promote and share your video besides e-mails; optimizing your video on YouTube, other social media channels, an online ad campaign, and your own website.

Like everything else in marketing, it’s all about trial and error and trying video email marketing is no different. Do not get discouraged if you do not get the results you were looking for right away. Even the experts are still testing the waters with video! Your first video email marketing campaign doesn’t have to be perfect. What matters is that you get started and give yourself an opportunity to improve each time!
